Written by H.P. Davidson, "Ride High You Mustangs" is Cal Poly's official fight song.

Ride High, You Mustangs!
Kick the frost out burn the breeze
Ride High, You Mustangs!
Those bow-wows we'll knock to their knees

Hi! Ki! Yi!

Ride High, You Mustangs!
Chin the moon and do it right
Ride High and cut a rusty

Fight! Fight! Fight!

All Hail Green and Gold
Written by H.P. Davidson, "All Hail Green and Gold" is Cal Poly's Alma Mater.

All Hail, Green and Gold,
May your praises e'er be told
Of Friendship, and of courage
And stalwart ones of old!
All Hail, Green and Gold,
In your name we shall prevail,
So to California Polytechnic,
Hail! Hail! Hail!

Yea Poly
"Yea Poly" became an official Cal Poly school song in 2009. The music was written by H.P. Davidson with lyrics by Joshua Parker (CSC 2009).

On Pacific shores, 'neath Bishop Peak
Along the serene San Luis Creek
Lies our alma mater, grand as can be!

Many a foe will stalk her ground
But we, mighty Mustangs, won't be found
But valiantly marching to victory!
Strike up the band for all to hear!
For our alma mater, sing and cheer!
Ride High and she'll never fail!
Banners of green and gold will raise
And so will the echoes of her praise
For Cal Poly will prevail!

YEA POLY!

Musty, Cal Poly's loveable mascot, is just like his wild counterpart. He's free-roaming, fun-loving and always up for a good time! You'll see him at many of our athletic events - football, basketball, baseball, volleyball — you name it, he's probably dancing at it.

Musty loves to hang out and socialize - check out his Instagram Page. Be sure to tag Musty in all your photos with him!

If you're interested in having Musty at an event, please send a formal request via e-mail — include as many details of your event (time, purpose, etc.) Most off-campus appearances will have a fee associated with them and are based upon availability.
In 2013, Cal Poly alumnus Robin Baggett (Business '73) and his wife, Michelle donated a gelding named Moonstar to Cal Poly for the purpose of boosting school spirit on campus. Faculty and students in Cal Poly's animal science program prepped the horse for his debut at the 2014 Mustang Football home opener.

The live mascot is intended to supplement, not replace, Musty, the costumed character that has served the university as a spirit symbol for years.

In 2014, Moonstar was renamed Chase after Cal Poly's only female president, Margaret Chase. The name is a metaphor to encourage the entire Cal Poly community to always pursue their dreams. Read More.

Cal Poly sits on the traditional lands of the yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash Tribe of San Luis Obispo County and Region.

The yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini have a documented presence in this area for over 10,000 years. The tiłhini peoples have stewarded their ancestral and unceded homelands which include all of the cities, communities, federal and state open spaces within the San Luis Obispo County region.

These homelands extend East into the Carrizo Plains toward Kern County, South to the Santa Maria River, North to Ragged Point, and West beyond the ocean’s shoreline in an unbroken chain of lineage, kinship, and culture.

The Stampede: Every game day the football team leaves Mott Athletics Center led by the Mustang Band, Cheer and Dance down S Perimeter Road to Alex G Spanos Stadium and their Locker Room. The Stampede always takes place 2 hours prior to kick-off.

The Memorial Rock: A monument dedicated to the lives lost in the 1961 plane crash involving the Cal Poly Football team, every game following warm up the football team will take a moment to honor them on the North end of the stadium.

Stand for Kickoff: We stand for every kickoff and be loud and boisterous until the play ends.

First Downs: The announcer will says “And that’s a First Down” and the crowd responds “Mustangs!”

3rd down Noise Machine: When it is third down on defense the crowd becomes the 12th man and becomes the noise machine.

TOUCHDOWN T-Shirts: Look out for the Spirit Squad after TD as they will be throwing out T-shirts.

Post Game Band Performances: After every home football game the Mustang Band takes to the field again for a post game show.

Battle for the Golden Horseshoe: Cal Poly and UC Davis are both agricultural based universities creating many similarities. In 2003-2004 the tradition of exchanging the Golden Horseshoe began. UC Davis agreed to build a base for the trophy, while Cal Poly constructed the Golden Horseshoe. There was a misunderstanding and both UC Davis and Cal Poly made a Golden Horseshoe trophy. It was decided that the winning team of the inaugural 2004 game would choose the trophy. UC Davis won the game, chose their trophy and that trophy has been traded ever since.
Scarfs up: Fans are encouraged to raise their Cal Poly Scarfs above their head as the teams walk out for processional.

Blue-Green Rivalry: The Greatest soccer rivalry game in the country!!!
Every season the Cal Poly Men’s Soccer team plays UCSB in a home and home series with one being a non-conference match and the other being a conference match! Every year a limited amount of free student tickets get released a month prior to the home match! It is the event of the fall! There are a few things that are not part of CAL POLY TRADITION!
• Throwing objects, it was a UCSB thing not a Cal Poly one.
• Verbal Abuse of opponents and officials is not the Mustang Way.
• Entering the field of play.

Failure to correct this behavior will result in future games being played without fans! This is the most fun game we have on the calendar and we don’t want to lose it.

We value and respect our supporters and competitors!
Final point: For the final point of every set all fans rise to their feet and raise a finger until the Mustangs get the point and win the set.

Roofs: After a Cal Poly Block the crowd yells “Roof, roof, roof!”

Opening Ball Toss: Prior to every game the 7 starters toss a ball into the crowd. Will you be one of the luck fans to catch one?
Hands up: During all Cal Poly free throws all fans are encouraged to raise their hand and when the Mustang makes the basket, they dash their hand down and yell “swoosh.”

Tees for 3s: After a made 3 pointer by the Mustangs, members of the spirit squad throw out shirts to the loudest fans.

Pastry Madness: During opponent free throws the loudest fans are rewarded with a box of pastries

Post Game hand shakes: After all Cal Poly games the teams will walk around the court and hi-five fans as they exit.
K’s: After every Cal Poly Strikeout a K will be placed on the bleachers to the 3rd base side of the press box.
